Obituary
Dale E. Roberts, 61, died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at his home in Peculiar. Dale was born April 30, 1948, in Kansas City. He graduated from Center Sr. High in 1966 and received a degree in sociology from UMKC. He went on to obtain additional education in electrical technology and worked at Honeywell for the last 25 years. Dale enjoyed spending time with his family, watching movies, caring for his cats and eating good, KC barbeque. He was preceded in death by his parents, "Ray" and Effie Roberts, and an infant sister, Nancy. He is survived by his two daughters, Rebecca Rhodes and husband Michael, Fort Scott, Kan., and Kristen Benson and husband Ryan, Belton; his companion, Cherie Roberts, and a granddaughter, Mamie Rhodes. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133, at (816) 353-1218.
Dale was a caring man, the most unselfish kind of man. He lived his life with the purpose of providing for his family. He often sacrificed his own needs and desires to assure the happiness of others. Whether he realized it or not, he was the rock, the foundation, of those around him. We stand firm because of the support and guidance he provided.
Dale’s road had not been easy, but he always had a way of interjecting his sarcastic wit into his daily activities. His humor and intelligence made him a very entertaining storyteller. He had the best stories, fantastic tales of the misadventures of his youth, or acute observations on society. Dale loved spending time with his family and pets. Animals loved him. Surely they could sense the gentle soul inside him. For those that knew him well, it was easy to see. He was a man who deserved a lot, but accepted little.
As we celebrate Dale today, smile when you recall the many funny, wonderful and quirky ways he touched your life. He was a dreamer, stuck in a realistic world. He is no longer held within the confines of his mortal existence and is now free to realize his biggest dreams.
I believe Dale’s wish for you today would be to not be sad, but to remember the time you had together with fondness and to take comfort in knowing his love for you will never die.
Dale will be forever in our hearts.
Rebecca Rhodes (Daughter)
We Miss you Dale on this X-MAS 2011
Tis the season and it will be another holiday without you and we will also miss you when our family- here in Missouri goes and sees, Brieanna, your neice, get married next year in Feburary 2012. I know you were needing to visit your family in California and had planned to do so after weight loss surgury that you never made it to.
A lot of people probably don't know that when you were younger you lived in California in Napa; first picking peaches and tomatoes in the fields. You were one of the few white people out in the fields and then later you got one of your most treasured jobs working for SAFEWAY.
You will be in our hearts this Holiday Season and your family loves you Dale. We know you are with your mom Effie and all your family and friends and beloved pets. Merry Yule and Christmas. ***** Cherie
